The First Month

Reece is one month old.  And yes, I feel like time is going so fast.  The saying "the days are long but the years are short" rings true daily.  This first month of Reece's life has been wonderful.  When Parker was born, my whole world shifted, everything looked and felt different and I felt thrown into this terrifying, 24/7 role of parenthood.  It was hard.  There were evenings with a fussy baby, nights with sleep in 1 hour increments, lots of tears, and feelings of being completely overwhelmed.  It got better and we grew into our new roles.  Two and a half years later we felt much stronger.  Patrick and I were ready to do this again, we could handle it, we knew it would be tough but we also knew that the hard parts (i.e. sleepless nights, fussy babies, lack of alone time) would pass.  And then Reece was born, and this first month has been so much softer and more subtle.  We kept looking at each other, waiting for the ball to drop.  He is a very easy, content baby (which helps tremendously) but everything has been easier and I have enjoyed almost every minute.  Parker has and is adjusting very well (the first week he was out of character) and I feel like Reece has been here for much longer than a month now.  It has been such an unexpected gift to be able to experience a new baby for a second time with all the knowledge you have gained from going through it before.  And Reece has truly been such a delight.
Here are a few pictures of the past month:

We celebrated Patrick's birthday
And the two of us even got to sneak away for a dinner out, alone, thanks to Grandma and Pa

We went to a graduation dinner for cousin Zach at the local hibachi restaurant.  Here is Parker with Aunt Kate and Uncle Jack
